Carrying, Not Fixing

The inner emotional work of August.

"Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Matthew 11:28-29

This month's theme is Carrying because carrying is what most of us are actually doing. Not solving. Not finishing. Carrying — a grief, a hope, a question, a relationship, a version of ourselves we are not ready to put down.

There is a difference between carrying and fixing. Fixing wants a deadline. Carrying accepts a season. Fixing is loud. Carrying is patient. Fixing asks, When will this be over? Carrying asks, How do I want to be while it is not over yet?

The woman who is only trying to fix her life is exhausted. The woman who is learning to carry it is tired, but she is not fraying. There is a difference.

Carrying, in an inner sense, is the practice of holding something without letting it become the whole room. You do not deny it. You do not perform through it. You do not weaponize it. You put it in a place inside you where God can also hold it, and you keep walking.

This month, the invitation is not to fix what you are carrying. The invitation is to notice what you are carrying, to name it honestly, and to let yourself be a woman who is allowed to still be inside the story.
