Margin Notes

A gentle Bible notetaking routine for the woman who has ten minutes.

"These words shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently — talk of them when you sit, when you walk, when you lie down, when you rise."

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

You do not need a color-coded system to study the Bible. You need a pencil and a habit of noticing.

The margin note method is exactly what it sounds like. Read the passage. In the margin, write four small things: a word (what stood out), a picture (a tiny sketch or symbol, even a heart or an arrow — no artistic pressure), a question (what you do not understand), and a whisper (what you sensed the Spirit saying, even if it is one syllable).

That is the whole method. Four marks. Ten minutes. On a busy morning you may only get two of the four, and that is still study. On a slower morning you may fill the margin and keep going into a journal — also study.

Over months, your Bible becomes a record of the woman who has been reading it. You will flip back and find the whisper you needed to hear again. You will find a question you have now answered. You will find, tucked in a margin from last spring, the exact sentence that steadies you in August.

This is not a curriculum. It is a companionship.
