Journaling as Remaining

Staying rooted when everyone else keeps moving.

"Remain in Me, and I in you."

John 15:4

Remain is a soft word for a demanding practice. To remain is to stay when leaving would be easier. To stay put in a truth when the world moves the goalposts on you every scroll.

August is the month we practice remaining at The Inner Pages, because August is the month everyone else is loud. Everyone is announcing. Everyone is arriving. Everyone is being seen. And you, with your quieter season, begin to wonder if quiet is the same as behind.

It is not. Remaining looks like a woman with a journal open on a Tuesday morning who is not being watched by anyone. She is not building content. She is building a soul.

Here is what journaling as remaining looks like in practice. You show up to the page even when nothing is happening. Especially when nothing is happening. You write the same feeling three days in a row without shame. You do not turn every emotion into a lesson. You let the page be a room you sit in, not a stage you perform on.

The temptation of remaining is that it looks unproductive. There is no metric. No one will clap. But God is not scrolling. He is with you in the room. And the woman who learns to remain becomes almost impossible to knock off center, because her center was never negotiable in the first place.

"Remaining is not stillness. It is the daily refusal to be pulled out of your own life."
