SOAP is a four-part Bible study method — Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer — and this mini lesson slows it down. You hand copy the passage word for word before you interpret anything, because the slowness is the point and copying makes you read what is actually there.

The four steps

• S — Scripture: copy the passage by hand, with seven ruled lines for the writing
• O — Observation: who is speaking, to whom, about what, and what comes just before. Only what is on the page, no interpretation yet
• A — Application: what would be different about today if you believed this, written as "Today, when ___ happens, I will ___"
• P — Prayer: pray the passage back in its own words

A fifth prompt asks what words repeat and where the sentence turns, and a final line gives you one sentence to carry.
